CMST donates 5000 units of sunscreen to Apam
Central Medical Stores Trust (CMST), through the Ministry of Health (MoH), has donated 5 000 sunscreen lotion with skin protection factor (SPF)30 worth K17 million to Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (Apam).
The event took place on Friday at CMST headquarters in Lilongwe.
Speaking in an interview on Friday, CMST chief executive officer Feston Kaupa said his organisation donated the items following an appeal from Apam.
“CMST believes that its mandate can be well-implemented by ensuring all its work conveys a good understanding of demands of public healthcare beneficiaries,” he said.
He said CMST will continue to recognise albinism as a condition whose associated skin problems require adequate and effective medical attention.
He said: “We make it a priority that such important items are always available for purchase by district health offices (DHO) who then, though their administrative arrangements, spread out the distribution of the commodity to beneficiaries.”
Apam president Overstone Kondowe said the donation would help to reduce challenges they face in summer when their skin is exposed to long hours of sunshine.
This is the second time for CMST, through the MoH, to donate sunscreen to Apam.
CMST made a similarly donation of K4 million worth of 1500 units of SPF30 sunscreen to Apam on July 19, 2016.
